old prayers

the
way i say it
psalm 23
the really famous
words

lord,
shepard
want
green pastures
still waters
restore

and

soul

soul
what a word
simple
real big
the
impenetrable
penetrated
soul

walk
valley
shadow
death
fear
evil
he
me
days
life

the absolute
the truth
on a simple stroll

yet
no god
but
thee

no spirit
but thine

only
here
counts

now is fleeting

( once i was told that apple butter is bear fat
i believed it.)

avoid belief
embrace the void
you
are
always
held up

then
after
it is the great
reconciliation
the final beginning
until the next beginning

so it goes
as
always

or
so i feel

there are no beginnings
or endings
time feels its way
around
our empty pockets

loose change
looking for a hole

time the invention
that makes us swear
that it
is
is not

time
falls short
as we
recycle
begin again
recycle

spring tells us
the baby wailing out wonder
the swirling earth

the galaxies

no time
no space
just
movement

it's all inside us

all of it

Sunshine and Sweat

you know
...back in the day....
i was always pissed off about something
i was mad
i was raging inside
i would treck myself
deep into the forest
i would scream
WHY!!!!
as loud as i could

i would cry
like a
lost boy

i wanted the world to be fun
like it was
when i was a child
my dad protecting us
my mom
sick all the time
telling us
i love you
every chance she had

at the kitchen table
we would mix
our ground beef gravy
with the corn and the peas
sometimes
canned
green beans
we smelled of
"sweat and sunshine"
as my friend
Lucket
says
of her grandchildren

i remember you
sweat and sunshine
swinging and singing
on the rope
flying
your braids coming out

your little pink sundress

dirty undies

free

and

i look back
at my life

and

i look back
at you
and
i see
childhood

i see
you
there are no disguises
no
masks
no word
will sway
my
knowledge
or stay
my observation
your blood is mine
your blood
is your moms
and
that makes
your blood

yours

you are
pumped through our hearts

i feel it

you sing in the bathtub
and
i know your voice

i know
the who
of you

life
is
always
a mirror
that we
all
look into

who is that
we see

i think
we always know the answers
and
it is
the answers that
are the
most

trouble
